Thursday, The Mister texted me and asked me to pick up the ingredients for potato salad because he had a potluck at work on Friday. Once he got home, however, I was informed the potluck theme had changed, and he needed to bring rice and beans instead. Insert a phone call to our favorite local Mexican restaurant.
It would be late in the evening by the time the food would be ready for pick up, so The Mister went to get it by himself. Having left too early, though, he found himself at the nearby PetSmart.
Where he found a black kitty in need of a forever home. So, he texted me a photo, and I rushed the minis out of pajamas and into jeans so we could see this kitty for ourselves.
Tumblr? I was smitten.
Inside that glass cage was the tiniest, fuzziest, black kitty … walking around like a boss.
He was there via a local animal rescue, so even though we tried to put him on hold, we were told to come back on Saturday because none of the rescue volunteers were there to process an adoption. To say we were disheartened would be an understatement, but we knew we’d come back today.
We had plans to look at other kitties today, but they were already being held for others, so we rushed to our PetSmart. And there he was, in his glass cage, playing with his orange litter mate.
And there were two ladies, about to fill out adoption forms to adopt him. Him, our black kitty. Our hearts were breaking as we dragged ourselves away. Then, just as we were out the door, the kitty’s foster mom ran after us, “Those women changed their mind. Did you still want him?”
The women had been waffling, unsure of which kitten to adopt—the mellow, orange female or the fluffy, black male—and I think seeing our sad faces helped them make their decision.
When I held him, and snuggled him close as he purred in to my chest, I knew. I knew he was the kitty for us.
So, without further ado … Tumblr lovelies, meet Wolfgang.
BIGGEST FULL MOON OF THE YEAR WILL OCCUR THIS WEEKEND
The moon will officially become full Saturday, May 5th at 9:35 p.m. Mountain Time. This is also when the moon will be closest to Earth, called the lunar perigee. Whenever the moon’s fullness coincides with its perigee, we have what has been nicknamed a ‘supermoon’.
But, wait, there’s more. Not only does the moon’s perigee coincide with the full moon this month, but this perigee will be the closest to Earth of any this year. In other words, it’s the perigee of perigees. Of all the times in 2012 that the moon will be closest to the Earth, this time will be the closest of all. It’s the closest of close moons. As it passes overhead in the dark sky, bulbous and bright, you will be able to to hear a slight whooshing sound.
Because of all this closeness and fullness, the moon will be 16% brighter than normal, so eye protection may be necessary.
The last supermoon occurred in March 2011. That’s it in the picture above, taken by a guy named Tim McCord. Look how fucking close it is. Jesus.
The best way to view this month’s supermoon is by stepping away from your computer and actually going outside to look at it, and the best time to do that is just after it rises or just before it sets. It will appear even bigger then, filling the whole sky with its cold, creepy moonness.
Share this on Facebook. Help spread the word about the really big moon!
